Successful Online Marketing Trait #1: Persistence
I know more than one person is going to read this first headline and think that answer is a total cop-out, but that would fail to acknowledge the importance of continuing to try to make money online in the face of adversity. If there is one unchanging variable in the online world is the considerable amount of adversity anyone faces in competing in the online marketplace. The ability to persevere in the face of a continually changing competitive landscape is the number one trait of successful online marketers. Search engines change. Legal frameworks change. Payment methods change. Affiliate programs die out. Very little ever stands still on the web, and the successful web entrepreneur acknowledges this and remains flexible and confident in their ability to make new paths to success when old paths have been blocked.

Trait #2 of the Successful Online Marketer: Empathy for the Customer
I’m not entirely sure how to sum this up, but for some the best skill to make money online they have is the ability to be a critical shopper. Those of us who pretty much walk into the store with the blinders on can be a bit handicapped when it comes to learning what sells. A web entrepreneur capable of seeing the forest through the trees, whether walking through a department store or analyzing the search methods of an online shopper, has a tremendous gift when it comes to figuring out what works.
Trait #3: The Ability to Determine the Difference Between an Opportunity and a Money Pit
The last and most important trait I’ve seen, perhaps it is the best skill to make money after all, is the ability to quickly and accurately determine whether a market represents an opportunity to exploit or a vast time and money pit. Far too many internet marketing entrepreneurs chase rabbits down never-ending holes, spending precious hours, days and weeks of their lives trying to squeeze a few dimes out of bad markets. Now don’t get the idea that there are good markets and bad markets overall: that’s not the case. The successful web marketer knows quickly whether he or she has the best skill to make money in that market or not. If not, they’re smart enough to lock that idea away for another day and move on to a more productive / lucrative activity.
